Rain, Rain, Rain

Another Gray Day

It’s been rainy and gray a lot in Chicago lately. Yes, I know spring showers bring the flowers, but flowers need sun too!

Years ago, my granddaughter, Sophie, used to sing a song to me when it rained, “Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun, please shine down on me.”

Last week I was in California to attend a fun and love filled wedding. It was an outdoor wedding. The sun was out and smiling on the young couple. Delightful! (Side note: they were so filled with joy, I don’t think rain would have bothered them!)

The next day, it rained. But this was California. It wasn’t supposed to rain! Of course our California family was ecstatic. My niece was thrilled. The drops made her beautiful flower garden sparkle! Pinks, reds, lavenders and, oh, the shades of green! I found myself smiling and enjoying the rain.

All this talk of family reminded me of my mother. She used to say, “wherever you live there are things you love and things you hate. You choose what you focus on.” Of course! It’s all in how you view it! So I’ll sing in the rain and dream of spring flowers on the deck.
