Here Comes Winter!

It’s a cold day in Chicago. We’ve had chilly days, but today is the first really cold day this season! I’m not a cold weather person. In fact, sometimes I’m teased that I need a sweater in August!

When winter comes I search for the little things that warm my heart.

  • rosy cheeks and red noses on little kids

  • hot chocolate

  • colorful wool hats

  • my red boots

  • bright blue winter skies

  • holiday lights on the streets (they stay up for most of the winter in Chicago!)

  • falling snow (yes)

  • coming in from the cold

  • a good book and a warm throw

  • tea in fancy cups

  • candlelight

A long time ago I read a book titled Searcher of Majesty. I don’t remember the author. The title has stuck with me. I think of myself as a searcher, not of majesty, but of life’s little surprises no matter what the season.

“Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influence of the earth.” Henry David Thoreau
