Drawing Breath 2.0
Balancing Act
Do you make New Year’s resolutions? I don’t. Usually that is, but this year I’m making an exception!
I’m reading 24/6, a book by Tiffany Shlain. Shlain talks about our addiction to our screens – phones, computers,TVs etc. We are rarely, if ever, totally focused on the present moment. She and her family observe “Technology Shabbat” one day a week they go totally offline. They’ve been doing it for ten years!
The benefits are numerous and sometimes surprising. There is the obvious improvement in family life. To name a few others, Shlain notes improved creativity, sleep, good humor, and the appreciation of the internet when you return from your weekly vacation
My plan will be a little different, perhaps not as stricit, but definitly offline. Sunday will no longer be the day I go to Mass and then go on as usual. Sunday will be my Ah day. The day I go to Mass and draw breath, no internet! I realize the plan may need a little adjusting to fit my life but it’s a start and worth the effort.
I recommend 24/6. Read it and see how it may positively affect your life! I’ll let you know how it’s working for me!
